Marine LPG

Marine LPG appliances are commonly used on boats of all sizes to provide hot water, heating and cooking facilities. It is important to use appliances that are specifically designed for the marine environment. Marine LPG Appliances are robust enough to handle high humidity, vibration and shocks and jolts.

We strongly recommend that if you are considering LPG appliances for your boat, you contact our office to arrange to discuss your requirements with our LPG Gas Safe engineers. When used correctly, LPG is an excellent fuel for marine use, but when badly installed these systems do carry risks.

Our engineers are fully qualified and can give you piece of mind. Our marine gas engineers are also more than happy to carry out general checks and servicing on your existing appliances. We would recommend an annual service and safety check on all marine LPG systems and LPG appliances.

LPG for boats is usually stored in gas bottles of varying sizes. The exact sizes will be dependent on the usage needs of your LPG appliances. LPG gas comes in two forms – butane and propane. These are two chemically different gases, so have slightly different properties. Butane burns hotter and can be a little cheaper, but does not like cold temperatures below 5°C. Propane burns slightly colder, but will keep flowing until -45°C.

The LPG appliances themselves can take either kind of gas, but if you are switching from one type to another you will need to have the regulator changed. Bottles should be stored securely on-board, usually in a purpose-built gas locker. Our engineers will follow all relevant regulations and ensure your LPG/Gas system is safe and meets Gas Safe requirements.

Marine LPG appliances are specially designed to withstand the unique challenges of the marine environment, including high humidity, constant vibration, and frequent shocks and jolts. These robust appliances provide essential services such as hot water, heating, and cooking, ensuring comfort and convenience on your boat.

We strongly recommend consulting with our LPG Gas Safe engineers before purchasing or installing LPG appliances on your boat. Proper installation and maintenance are crucial for safety and efficiency. Our engineers are fully qualified to assess your needs and recommend the best solutions.

Often you will need certification on LPG appliances for insurances and Port Authority compliance.

We offer Marine LPG services in and around the Dover, Kent area, but cover the entire South East area including Dover, Deal, Sandwich, Canterbury, Folkestone, Ashford, Maidstone, Ramsgate, Margate, Broadstairs, Herne Bay, Whitstable and all surrounding areas.

Installation
  • Expert Installation: Our engineers are trained to install LPG systems and appliances correctly, minimizing risks and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Annual Servicing and Safety Checks: Regular maintenance is vital for safe operation. We recommend an annual service and safety check for all marine LPG systems and appliances. Our team is happy to perform these checks, ensuring your equipment remains in optimal condition.
LPG Supply and Storage
  • Gas Bottles: We provide LPG in various bottle sizes to meet your usage needs. LPG is available as butane and propane, each with distinct properties. Butane burns hotter and is more economical but is less effective in temperatures below 5°C. Propane burns slightly cooler but remains effective down to -45°C.
  • Secure Storage: Proper storage of LPG bottles is essential. Our engineers ensure that gas bottles are securely stored in purpose-built gas lockers, complying with all relevant regulations.
Appliance Conversion and Safety
  • Regulator Changes: If switching between butane and propane, a regulator change is necessary. Our engineers can handle this conversion, ensuring your system operates safely and efficiently.
  • Safety Compliance: Safety is our top priority. We adhere to all Gas Safe requirements and follow stringent safety protocols during installation, maintenance, and servicing of your LPG systems.
